Week 16 Lesson

• Final Paper Reminders

Final Research Prospectus/Abstract

This is your last research prospectus. By now you know what I want. We've spoken about your paper and now you are finishing up the final draft this week. Write your final research prospectus and post it here. Title it Final Research Prospectus. This time give me your research question and a 300 word abstract of your final paper. Last day of class is Friday, so post it by then.

An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's purpose. When used, an abstract always appears at the beginning of a manuscript, acting as the point-of-entry for any given research or scientific paper. For the APA style of documentation a shorter abstract is required for most papers. It is not required for your paper in this class, except for this final research prospectus.

Important Reminders about the Final Paper

  • The due date is Wednesday by midnight of the final week.
  • NO late papers will be accepted - NO excuses.
  • Your final paper will not be accepted if you have not completed ALL Odyssey assignments: 3, 5, 6, 8 & 9. Check to see that you have a grade for each.
  • Any paper with plagiarized material in it will be returned ungraded, and you will receive a zero (0) for your final paper. No do-overs. No rewrites. If you disagree with any findings, be prepared to take up your argument with the Dean of Academic Affairs. "It was an accident" is not a valid argument. We spent many weeks learning how to cite sources correctly. If you make a mistake at this point, it's like failing the test. You get the grade you earn.
  • Submit your paper as ONE document only - NOT 3-4 separate documents (cover page, outline, paper, works cited/references).
  • Papers not meeting the 8-10 page minimum requirement will be docked 10% for each page it is short. The cover page, outline and works cited/references pages DO NOT count in the total page count.
  • There are 4 instances in which your paper could be returned ungraded. They are:
    • Plagiarism mentioned above.
    • Your topic doesn't match the material created in your previous Odyssey assignments: 3, 5, 6, 8 & 9.
    • Your paper doesn't utilize any of the previous research and materials discovered during the course research process.
    • Not using the required number and types of sources. Sources must include a book, periodical article, scholarly journal article, reference source, and primary research.
    • Excessive proof reading errors: grammar, punctuation and mechanics.
