Course Description

This course is an exploration of the use of instructional technology in career and technical education, and includes a history of technology education, teacher
and student technology standards, landmark studies related to using technology in education, and utilization of technology in the classroom.  

This course is offered as part of The Student and Teacher Technology Transformation Teams (ST4STEM) Project; funded by a National Science Foundation Grant
and administered by the Maricopa Community Colleges in Tempe, Arizona. The ST4STEM Fellowship focuses on increasing the ability of STEM CTE teachers and
their students to collaboratively learn and apply STEM skills using design-based learning and technology tools.
 

Course Equipment Needs

Required: Access to a computer with Internet connectivity
Desired: Headphone set with microphone, and webcam. (Check with your school to see if they have equipment available to you. If not, please contact
us to check out equipment.)
 

Course Objectives

  1. Identify information and communication technology (ICT) tools and applications for CTE courses
  2. Create and assess design-based learning activities for students
  3. List best practices for guiding students as they work through design-based learning activities
  4. Identify ICT tools/applications to be used for connecting students to STEM professions
  5. Complete a design-based lesson and implement with students
  6. Develop a blog and professional network that will extend beyond completed course requirements
  7. Establish connections with Arizona CTE teachers for collaborative professional work and student activities

Non-Grant Participants 

Non-Grant Participants, or NGPs, are welcome to participate a lot, or a just a little :-)  To help navigate the course, below is a chart that details content and
when it becomes available. Once open, it will remain open for the duration of the semester.  However, NPGs MUST complete Module 1. Using this chart,
NGPs can jump in as time, interests or needs allow.  NGPs are encouraged to be a part of the course community, and share work, resources and posts with
other NGPs and grant Fellows.

Course Content and Syllabus
This course is made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is considered a pilot program.  What does that mean?  It means that
this program 
is in a testing phase.  Our goal is to meet grant objectives by providing the most comprehensive experience possible for our participants.  To do
so, based on your feedback and other considerations, we are likely to make changes during the semester to improve your experience and the efficacy of the

Grading Policy

Points will be earned in two locations, Canvas and 3D GameLab for a total of 2,000 points.  During week three we will share (to your personal
Google account) your personal grading worksheet so you can check at any time to see how many total points you have earned, against total possible points.  
The final course grade will be determined by the sum of the points earned as detailed below.

Withdrawal

It is the student’s responsibility to initiate a withdrawal from the course. If you do not officially withdraw, you will receive a course grade.
 

Online Courtesy and Conduct

Consequences include probation, dismissal from class, college suspension, and in extreme cases, expulsion.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism or any other form of cheating will not be tolerated. Plagiarism/cheating will result in loss of credit for the assignment in question.

Incomplete Grade

The College has very specific requirements for assigning a course grade of incomplete (I). A grade of incomplete (I) can only be granted to students who
have a reasonable expectation of completing work missed due to unusual circumstances. This requires filing a contract signed by the student and instructor
that indicate a specific date of completion. If it becomes apparent to you that you need to request an incomplete, contact the instructor as soon as possible.
